Sailboat Shop is proud to announce that we are offering powerboat lessons. This will be a two-day course with classroom and on the water training. Call the Shop to set up a date that works for you.
American Boating (AB) Lessons - AB101
The Sailboat Shop is an American Boating (AB) school.
PRICE: $650 per person
DURATION: 2 days (about 12 hours total)
LOCATION: Scorpion Bay Marina, Lake Pleasant, AZ
AGES: Recommended 16+
CLASS SIZE: max 4
Learn theory and have "on the water" experience: 4 hours discussion, 8 hours on the water, over 2 days.
Course topics include: terms and definitions, parts of the boat, various boat types, navigating and identifying hazards, weather conditions, docking, basic knots.
Prior boating experience will allow the instructor to elaborate beyond the basic text. Reading the materials is required prior to the lecture.
Price includes written test, AB certification fees, and AB logbook.
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOUR LESSON:

Purchase your Official AB course book online (Powerboating Made Easy) and study prior to arriving. Bring book, notebook and pencil.

We also recommend reviewing these Powerboating articles ahead of time.

Instructor will provide you with start time. It will be a full day, so pack a lunch.

Bring water (please no metal/glass), sunblock, a hat, and light jacket per weather.

Shoes: shoes may not be worn on the boat, but are allowed during classroom portion of course.
THE DAY OF YOUR LESSON:

Please be on time.

The day will start with classroom training, then move into hands-on boat training.

On the second day you will take the written exam.
UPON COMPLETION OF COURSE:

When you pass the course, the instructor will contact AB with verification. You will receive the official AB ID and AB Logbook signed by your instructor, an AB 101 Certification Sticker, and a 90-day trial AB Membership.

If you do not pass, you will have up to one year from date of course completion to retake test, free of charge.

Do you have what it takes to be a Powerboating Instructor?
Sailboat Shop is having another AB IQC (Instructor Qualification Clinic). We have limited availability, so if you ever wanted to become an instructor for AB 101, this is the time. CALL THE SHOP to sign up.
Prerequisite - Must have AB 101 as a student (or be able to obtain it) and enjoy teaching others about powerboating!

Gratuity is always appreciated, but not required.
All sales are final. Lessons may be rescheduled up to 5 days prior to appointment.
If weather conditions are unsafe, Sailboat Shop will contact you to reschedule free of charge.
There is no designated age minimum, but we recommend ages 16 and up, due to the physical requirements.
