DURATION:  2 Days (6-8 hours online, 6 hours on the water)

LOCATION: Scorpion Bay Marina, Lake Pleasant, AZ (online and on water)

PREREQUISITE: ASA101

Learn to skipper and crew aboard a sloop-rigged keelboat of approximately 20 to 30 feet in length by day in winds up to 20 knots. Depart, sail, and return with control demonstrating teamwork. This course will cover skills for sailing effectively and safely, including specific roles on a boat, such as skipper and crew. You will learn detailed procedures for communication, coordination, and boat handling during maneuvers. Further exploration of sail trim concepts, managing sail shape, and power through adjustments in angle of the attack, depth, and twist. It will provide a good foundation of skills that can be used on the race course.

This course is beneficial to all sailors, even those with higher ASA certifications.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOUR LESSON:

  1. Instructor will send you a link for the online portion of the class. This must be done anytime before the day on the lake. It's approximately 6-8 hours of online training.

  2. Instructor will provide you with start time for the hands-on portion of the class. It will be a full day, so pack a lunch.

  3. Bring water (please no metal/glass), sunblock, a hat, and light jacket per weather.

  4. Shoes: non-marking outsoles, such as sneakers. 

  5. Bring sailing or other durable gloves for handling lines.

THE DAY OF YOUR LESSON:

  1. Please be on time.

  2. It will be a full day on the lake.

  3. You will take the written exam after the sailing portion on day two.

UPON COMPLETION OF COURSE:

  1. When you pass the course, the instructor will contact ASA with verification. 

  2. If you do not pass, you will have up to one year from date of course completion to retake test, free of charge.

All sales are final. Lessons may be rescheduled up to 48 hours prior to appointment.

If weather conditions are unsafe, Sailboat Shop will contact you to reschedule free of charge.

There is no designated age minimum, but we recommend ages 16 and up, due to the physical requirements.
