GregKupiec_4x5_v3.jpg

Lifetime love of sailing and teaching.

BIOGRAPHY

Greg Kupiec was mesmerized by sailing with his introduction to Hobie Cats as a young child in France, and Capris at the Emerald Bay Boy Scout Camp in Catalina, CA. Many decades later he started sailing again through the UCLA Aquatics Center in 2006. In 2015, after several ASA courses and a new love for cruising yachts, he became a member of the Fairwind Yacht Club in Marina Del Rey, CA. The 2 port, 34 boat co-op gave him unparalleled access to a variety of boats and coastal sailing grounds where he quickly became an ASA Instructor helping the club train and assess new members. As one of only three ASA 214 trainers at the time of the club’s newly acquired 35 foot Catamaran, Greg assisted in the sea trials of the Cat during his third circumnavigation of Catalina Island while preparing a curriculum to train members on the new platform.

Some of his more notable experiences include crewing on the delivery of Sea Shepherd’s 89’ Ketch “Martin Sheen” from San Francisco Bay to Vancouver, British Columbia. The trip of over 1000 miles took 9 days with winds of up to 32 knots & 12 foot seas. He has also circumnavigated Santa Cruz and Anacapa Islands off the coast of California.

Greg now splits his time between teaching for the Sailboat Shop on Lake Pleasant in Arizona and continued coastal sailing in California while working on acquiring his Captain’s License.
