HÅKAN SÖDERBOM
ASA INSTRUCTOR

A lifelong connection to seamanship and marine safety.
BIOGRAPHY
Håkan Söderbom (pronounced HAW-ken) grew up on the Baltic Sea coast of Sweden, where time on the water started early: fishing with nets, skating on frozen harbors, and scuba diving in cold Nordic waters. That background shaped a lifelong connection to seamanship and marine safety.

He began sailing actively in the Pacific Northwest in 2020 and has since skippered charter vessels in the Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands, Croatia, Mexico, and Sweden, along with completing offshore passages from Seattle to San Diego and from Cartagena, Colombia through the Panama Canal to Panama City. He has sailed on more than 40 different sailboats and has skippered vessels up to a Fountaine Pajot 50 cruising catamaran.

Håkan holds multiple American Sailing Association instructor certifications including ASA 101, 103, and 104, and is currently completing the U.S. Coast Guard OUPV licensing requirements. He also spent five years as a Washington State certified motorcycle safety instructor, developing a strong foundation for teaching practical skills and safety awareness to adult learners.
After a career in the technology industry, Håkan now enjoys helping new sailors build confidence on the water and preparing them for their own cruising adventures.
